Coconut Love

I recently discovered Design Essentials Coconut & Monoi line of hair products. Call me crazy but I want buy up ALL the product, every last one and hoard it all on the shelf and never let go! I love it so much.

We all know from our granny that coconut oil is great for your hair, skin, belly cramps, whatever, that stuff is magic, so when I strolled into the beauty supply store looking for something for my kinks and I saw this slim white tube with “Coconut” on the label I was intrigued. What granny-magic is this in this tube? The next ingredient had me stumped “Monoi”? what is that? but never mind, whatever it was it was hanging out with the grandaddy of all moisturisers and I was here for it. I grabbed it off the shelf. Wait what? $29 you say? I almost put the damn thing right back but since my hair has been literally snap, crackle and pop as I touch it, crispy dry like a can of Pringles, I sucked it up and bought it, heck I even grabbed something called  “Deep Moisture Milk Soufflé” I didn’t know what it was but it sounded delicious. My hair needed delicious, my belly too but that is a story for another day._RNC8975

$60 later I was on my way home to try out my new hair products. I washed my hair and grabbed a handful of the Deep Moisture Milk Soufflé rubbed that in then added a tiny squeeze of the Deep Moisture Milk Crème (I swear this stuff just has random accents to make it sound extra-fancy)

“It was $29!”

“Leave my stuff alone it has an accent and an extra-fancy something called Monoi!”)

Anyway, I noticed a change in my hair immediately. My hands glided over the strands instead of tangling, my curls were instantly defined, my hair felt soft.

The next day my hair still felt soft even though it was now no longer shower-damp. I felt like the hair-fairy had waved her wand over my head. I couldn’t stop (still can’t) running my hands over my hair. It isn’t breaking, it isn’t tangled. I even tried it on my 22 month old daughter’s hair and the results were the same. Her fragile, dry hair was instantly revitalised.

My hands only felt slightly oily after application but nothing I’d complain about. The smell is delicious and of course I Googled “Monoi” and discovered that according to Wikipedia it is “Monoï oil[1] is an infused perfume-oil made from soaking the petals of Tahitian gardenias (best known as Tiaré flowers) in coconut oil. Monoï (pronounced Mah-noy) is an ancient Tahitian word meaning “scented oil” in the Reo-Maohi language. Monoï is widely used among French Polynesians as a skin and hair softener. It is also popular in Europe and gaining recognition in the United States.”

So in conclusion, if you have dry kinky hair this product is probably worth a try.

Does it work: Yes
Expensive: Yes
Would I buy it again: YES

Note: Yes I did go back and grab the Curl refresher and the oil. Both are fabulous!
